Sacred Appointments: The Secret to Thriving – Why Every Busy Wife & Mom Needs Fixed Prayer Dates with God

Sacred Appointments: The Secret to Thriving – Why Every Busy Wife & Mom Needs Fixed Prayer Dates with God
Ladies, I know firsthand how busy life can be. Between looking after my three little ones, running a home, coaching women, and managing everything else in between, I understand the feeling of never having enough time.
There’s always something to do, someone who needs attention, and a to-do list that seems to grow on its own! But let me tell you something I’ve learned: if we don’t intentionally fix time for prayer, it just won’t happen.
I get it. Some days, the baby is crying, the older kids need help, and before you know it, the whole day has passed, and you haven’t even had a moment to be still before God. But that’s why we must be intentional.
We must schedule our time with Him the same way we schedule meals, work, and everything else that matters.
The Power of Fixed Prayer: Biblical Examples
One of the most powerful examples of this is Daniel. Life wasn’t easy for him—he was in exile, working in a hostile environment, yet nothing could shake his prayer life.
The Bible tells us that “he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed” (Daniel 6:10). Daniel’s schedule didn’t control his prayer life—his prayer life controlled his schedule.
And that’s exactly what we need to do. Even Jesus, in the middle of His busy ministry, made time for prayer: “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (Mark 1:35). If Jesus, the Son of God, needed dedicated prayer time, how much more do we?
A Mother Who Made Time: Susanna Wesley
One of my favorite stories is about Susanna Wesley, the mother of John and Charles Wesley. She had 19 children (yes, you read that right!), but even in the noise and chaos, she refused to neglect her time with God. Since she had no private space, she would sit in her chair and pull her apron over her head—and when her children saw that apron, they knew: “Mummy is praying.”
I love this story because it reminds me that we don’t need perfect conditions to pray—we just need to be intentional. What’s your “apron moment”? Maybe it’s in the kitchen before everyone wakes up, in the car before school pick-up, or in the bathroom when the house is loud. Whatever it is, make it sacred and untouchable.

Why Fixed Times of Prayer Matter for Us
1. It Strengthens Your Spirit for the Demands of the Day
Corrie ten Boom once asked, “Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tyre?” We don’t just need prayer for emergencies; we need it as fuel for daily life. So, when we pray like that, we would find that the power of God within us is activated to consistently effect positive changes in our lives and in our homes.
2. It Conditions Your Spirit and Mind
The primary purpose of prayer isn’t to convince God to act—it’s to transform you. As you pray, your thoughts align with His, and your words begin to reflect His heart. “Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart” (Jeremiah 15:16).
3. It Teaches You Discipline
When it’s time to pray, have the discipline to put everything else aside. The more distractions try to pull you away, the more determined you should be to stay. Let your spirit receive this discipline. Over time, you’ll find that God’s thoughts become your thoughts, and His words become your words.
4. It Conditions the Atmosphere of Your Home
A praying wife and mother create a spiritual covering over her home. When you consistently show up in prayer, you encourage the activities of the Holy spirit in your marriage, your parenting, and in everything and every decision you make. Asides that, you will be fortifying the boarders of your home against all evil.
5. It Helps You Grow in Prayer
A few minutes of prayer isn’t enough to condition your spirit. But the more you pray, the more you’d want to pray. As you build this habit, you can start small, say 15 minutes, but as you continue consistently, you will find that you are praying more. So try not to rush your prayer—sometimes, even when you think you’re done, the Holy Spirit might prompt you to continue. Be sensitive to Him.
6. It Allows the Holy Spirit to Work in You
Prayer isn’t just about asking God for things; it’s about fellowship with Him. The more time you spend with Him, the more your speech, your behavior, and your character are transformed. Make yourself available for this process.
7. It’s Essential for Raising Godly Children in Today’s World
Mothers, we are raising children in a world where darkness is aggressively trying to shape their minds and values. The enemy isn’t passive, so we cannot afford to be passive in prayer. When we pray, we are releasing spiritual forces that keep our children’s destinies aligned with God’s plan. We’re not just praying for protection—we’re praying for:
• Wisdom to guide them in truth.
• Strength to resist the pressures of the world.
• A deep love for God to be ignited in their hearts. Your consistent prayers today are shaping their tomorrow.
How I Track My Prayer Life (And You Should Too!)
I know how easy it is to let prayer slip when life gets busy. That’s why I tracking my prayer times using an app called TickTick, and let me tell you—it’s so encouraging to see my prayer sessions logged at the end of the month. Here’s how you can do the same:
• Set alarms for your prayer times. Treat them like appointments that can’t be missed.
• Use a journal or an app (like TickTick) to record your prayer sessions. Seeing your progress at the end of the month will motivate you.
• Be intentional—don’t just hope to find time. Make the time. Now, let’s take stock ladies, let me ask you: If you had to track your prayer life for the past seven days, what would it look like? Would you see consistency, or would it be sporadic? Would you find long, rich conversations with God, or quick prayers squeezed between tasks? Right now, I want you to pause and plan your prayer times.
Set your alarms, write them down, and build a system to track them. This isn’t about legalism—it’s about building a life of intimacy with God.
If you do this consistently, your life will never be the same. So, my dear sisters, will you take this seriously? Will you set that alarm now? Open your app, grab your journal, and make it happen. Your future self will thank you, and most importantly, your spirit will be transformed. I’ll be cheering you on. Let’s do this together!

Indeed we must deliberately plan to build our prayer life if not the busyness of life will cripple every opportunity to pray and weaken our position as gatekeepers. This was an insightful and practical read.

Prayer teaches discipline.. Once we start to comsistently pray and fellowship with God, our thoughts are aligned with His. I believe as a person if you truly commit and ask the help of the Holyspirit, this can be achieved. It should be intentional.

You always don’t disapoint@PG. This is me in what you are saying. My only problem is reading the bible, I don’t know why I can’t make time for that one but I picked something from the prayer message, I am going to use the tick tick or alarm to start it and see. I have the desire to read, I even bought a new bible but I am always not making time to read or get not motivated to read. Thank you for sharing this and always motivating us to be that virtuous woman. I will come again with a testimony. God bless you, PG♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

“The main purpose of prayer isn’t to cause God to act but to transform you.”
That’s one of the statements that really resonated with my spirit man. No wonder the bible encourages us to “Pray without ceasing.”
Thank you so much Dr PGO for the constant reminder to be a woman of prayer. I am running along to download ‘TickTick’ and put it to good use.

My prayer life should be the main deal not something to be taken lightly.. its should be the steering wheel and not a spare tyre.. praying daily should be International and doesn’t need a decorated place but rather what ever place is chosen should be made your quiet space to communicate with the father…
Adesuwa Ikponmwosa
From now on, I commit to being more intentional about my prayer life. I will:
Track my prayer habits to ensure consistency
Spend quality time with God, deepening our relationship
Cultivate a listening ear to the Holy Spirit’s prompts to pray
My goal is to nurture a vibrant, personal relationship with God, rooted in prayer and intimacy.”

I so much love this, I love the idea of tracking your prayers also and treating your prayers as an appointment, honestly if one can be this intentional it will be hard for Abba to ignore one. I have alarms set for prayer times but I think what is missing is my attitude towards this times. Me believing that although my alarm is ringing I can just snooze it and pray whenever its convenient but like Daniel it should be the other way round I should look forward to my prayer times and treat it like what it is …..A VIP EVENT. This is so beautifully written and insightful. Thank you.
Olawunmi

Thank you so much PG for this inspiring article..
The secret to thriving in this assignment is a structured, and disciplined prayer time. The devil isn’t passive so I must not be in my relationship/fellowship with God. The sacred appointment I can’t afford to miss is the way I’m seeing my prayer life now.
Aita
Praying consistentently transforms me. Thank you PDG for this beautiful reminder. Prayer should never be my spare tire, and as with other great habits, I need to be intentional.

This message is so spirit filled and transformative. This is definitely a guide for both a new convert and an experienced believer. It’s serves as a reminder to make prayer a lifestyle, like the air I breathe. Knowing my entire life depends on God. Thank you for this PG!
Jumoke Oyekanmi
Very insightful and powerful, am happy and privileged to be a VWF member. My prayer pattern has to be planned and intentional.
Naomi Smith
Honestly PG, it has been hard being disciplined when it comes to praying consistently, with work and the kids always being the excuse, instead I do it in between tasks so casually and I feel guilty because I know it is not enough. I definitely agree to scheduling prayer times on my calendar and being intentional about adhering to it just like I do other tasks.
Thank you for sharing this at the right time , I am motivated .
Abidemi Iyogun
Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tyre? Prayer is not just about making requests but fellowship with God.
